The walls

Even though in Italy the 1980s carried the negative political nuance of being the corrupt decade par excellence, on a global level they were characterized by positive phenomena: such as the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Berlin Wall.

In the second to last work – in chronological order of the artistic cycle – the raw style of early graffiti and punk alternates with the colorful aesthetic of games and video games that were still elementary and harmless. Like the Rubik's cube and Tetris, invented respectively by a Hungarian and a Soviet...

Three isolated and discrete details, in their tragic enigmatic nature, stand as a history of their own: the broken clock at the Bologna station, its hands frozen at the exact time of the bombing, 10:25 AM on a Saturday in August;
reactor No. 4 of the Lenin power plant in Chernobyl, which exploded at night during a highly reckless safety test; and the Tiananmen Square massacre.

These are events that more or less clearly mark different epochal boundaries, but always the beginning of an end: the Years of Lead and the strategy of tension; the Cold War, or rather Soviet power politics.
